Message from Leicestershire & Rutland Rural Policing Team |

Dear Resident
A recent message has been sent to our farming community from Melton's rural police officer that I thought I would share to the whole beat area.
"We are urging all members of our rural communities to take immediate action. January 2026 has seen a significant and concerning rise in rural crime across the Melton, Rutland and Harborough areas. This increase is being treated as a priority by the Rural Policing Team, and we are working intensively with partner agencies and neighbouring forces to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
As this trend continues, it is crucial that farmers, landowners, rural businesses and residents reassess and strengthen their security measures without delay. Please ensure that your CCTV systems are fully operational, that Quads, Gators, trailers and other valuable equipment are properly secured, and that any installed trackers are active and functioning correctly.
Remember: Effective security is built on layers, not single points of protection. Combining CCTV with silent alarms or beams, quality locking systems, security lighting and reinforced chains dramatically increases your defence against crime.
Our team is always available to offer guidance and support. If you need advice on improving your security or have any concerns, please contact us. Your vigilance and prompt action make a vital difference. Thank you for your continued support."
Should you require any assistance from the team please use this online contact form: Melton rural north | Your area | Leicestershire Police
If you see suspicious activity, unfamiliar vehicles, or anything that doesn’t feel right, please report it to us via 101. If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate threat, always call 999.
Kind Regards, PCSO Claire Gray 6541 Melton Rural North | ||
